Our home church is reading Deuteronomy. It is probably my favorite book of Moses. In today’s blog, I’m going to write about this verse, to prepare ourselves.
“You shall not do according to all that we are doing here today, everyone doing whatever is right in his own eyes, Deuteronomy 12:8
This is familiar language. Recall the story of Noah. “The Lord saw the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” (Genesis 6:5) Likewise, you may remember similar verses in Judges. Here, we have two identical verses, “In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” (Judges 17:6 and 21:25)
This is nothing new. In fact, I recently wrote about knowing the seasons in which I described what appears to be the last stages of the wrath of God. Today is the day, for the things God warned us all about are at hand. Everyone is doing whatever is right is his own eyes.
We’ve Been Warned.
God is merciful. How much more warning do we need? Indeed, we all have more than enough warning that none will be able to stand before the coming judgment of God and survive – apart from saving grace in Jesus. Even so, there will come a day when God has had enough. Are we there yet? I don’t know, but rest assured, we have been warned.
It seems to me to almost be a foregone conclusion. If that is so, how should this affect what I do and how I look at the world? First, I believe that, more than ever, we need to be warning the world of the judgment to come. Let me be frank, we have too few people warning the world of their sin and the judgment to come. We skip over the uncomfortable to get to the good news. This is not wise, nor is it biblical. False converts fool no one. (See Matthew 7:21-23)
Second, I think we are wasting our time to try to change people. IF there is to be a revival, it will be because of God. It seems to me that we spend way too much effort lamenting about how the world is going to pot and complaining that the government isn’t doing this or that. Look, the day is coming that Christian elected officials will not be welcome at all in government. It’s happening in “reasonable” governments already. Here’s a story from Finland, for example. Pray for revile? Absolutely! Worry about the direction the world is headed? Nope.
Coming to a Church Near You!
It wasn’t that long ago that homosexuality was absolutely forbidden in church. Almost overnight, all that changed. Now, we have entire denominations tripping over themselves to embrace this wickedness. Not so, you say, with the Evangelical church. Perhaps so, but there is another wave of sin that is ready to wash over our shores – Critical Race Theory (CRT). If you don’t already have a good handle on this, you need to, because it is NOT going to go away. It’s time to prepare ourselves.
In fact, there are several solid pastors that I have a great deal of respect for that are falling for this lie. Please DO NOT get me wrong. Racism is evil. Yet the entire CRT movement is NOT going to solve the problem of racism in our churches. Why? Because it is fundamentally anti-biblical. In fact, we should be running from it as fast and as far as we can. Yet, incredibly, many leading pastors are embracing it.
Why? Because we want the approval of the world. We would rather partner with the wicked than to stand accused by the world. Honestly, it’s like embracing arms with Catholics in the fight against abortion. If you need to understand my reasoning on this, see this post.
This Isn’t Going Away.
As much as we wanted it to, the whole homosexuality issue didn’t go away. In retrospect, I’m glad because it sifted out the believers from the apostate. CRT is the same. This isn’t going away. We need to prepare ourselves for it. To resist CRT is NOT the same as embracing racism, even though you will be accused of it. Look, the world will hate us no matter what. Let’s embrace the BIBLE and not man-made religions like CRT or BLM.
This isn’t going away. Now is the time to prepare ourselves. The world is on a one-way ticket ride to the lake of fire. Pay no attention to the brochures that make great promises of the sandy beaches. If we are following our bibles, the Holy Spirit will convict us of any racism. If some are stubborn in this, the bible is clear about dealing with that. Let’s not look to others to guide us in how God wants us to live. Let’s look to God. Are we going to do right in our own eyes or as God has instructed us?
Father, sound the alarm so that we might prepare ourselves for the battle to come. Amen.
