That Someone Might Hear

God sent his prophets of old to warn the people, but they would not listen. The same is true with preachers today. Oh, that someone might hear! While it is true that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved (Romans 10:13), no one calls unless God changes them. We are a stubborn creature, refusing the hand that feeds us.

There comes a day when God stops listening.

Heed the Warning

“How long, O simple ones, will you love being simple?
How long will scoffers delight in their scoffing
    and fools hate knowledge?
If you turn at my reproof,
behold, I will pour out my spirit to you;
    I will make my words known to you.
Because I have called and you refused to listen,
    have stretched out my hand and no one has heeded,
because you have ignored all my counsel
    and would have none of my reproof,
I also will laugh at your calamity;
    I will mock when terror strikes you,
when terror strikes you like a storm
    and your calamity comes like a whirlwind,
    when distress and anguish come upon you.
Then they will call upon me, but I will not answer;
    they will seek me diligently but will not find me.
Because they hated knowledge
    and did not choose the fear of the Lord,
would have none of my counsel
    and despised all my reproof,
therefore they shall eat the fruit of their way,
    and have their fill of their own devices.
Proverbs 1:22-31

That Someone Might Hear

Oh, that someone might hear this warning! You may be prosperous, popular, and happy, but without God you are poor, alone, and wretched creatures. Someday, all the blessings the Lord has bestowed upon you will be gone and judgment will happen. Don’t you know that the kindness of the Lord is meant to lead you to repentance? Unless you change your ways, there will come a day when the Lord will laugh at the calamity that strikes you.

Judgment is already evident! Look around you, and see! God has given us up in the lusts of our hearts to dishonor our bodies with sin. He gave us up to our dishonorable passions. Look around! Our lust has no boundaries.

He also gave us up to a debased mind, to do what ought not to be done. “Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.” (Romans 1:18-32)

Oh, that someone might hear!

Choose wisely.
