We see it happening right before our eyes. Free speech used to be a foundational stone of our country. While we certainly didn’t like what many said, we supported their right to say it. Times have changed. We are now seeing social media blocking posts. Some sites have been completely banned because they somehow violated the rules. Freedom of speech suddenly seems to be a thing of the past. It’s time to start preparing for censorship.
We’re being attacked. Hard. It’s not just the social media platforms and their rules. Yesterday I learned that LGBTQ artist Grace Baldridge has claimed the spot of top Christian album on iTunes. What’s interesting is that none of her songs have been played on the radio nor has any record label promoted her. Read about it here. Apparently, the sudden popularity comes from activists deliberately manipulating the system to promote their cause. It’s similar to what happened with GameStop.
The enemy is real. At this rate, it won’t be long before Christian sites will be banned from social media sites, perhaps even iTunes. We are now witnessing “Newspeak” or “Doublethink” – for those of you familiar with George Orwell’s classic, “1984.” I listened to it on Audible this past summer. Do yourself a favor and listen to it. Better yet, read it. Start preparing for censorship.
Should we be concerned about these things? I think so. While we can certainly fight for our Constitutional right of free speech, I think that train has left the station. Cultural and ideological purging is here.
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.Ephesians 6:12
We are to take up our armor, God’s armor, and stand firm. Prepare for censorship. Stay together directly as much as we can. The enemy will do its best to stamp us out, just like the early church, but all that did was to disperse believers and spread the faith like wild fire. Saul is once again ravaging the church. If we can’t meet in Jerusalem (social media), we’ll meet other places.
It’s good that we have national religious leaders who can shine a light in darkness. Alistair Begg, John MacArthur, RC Sproul, Charles Stanley, David Jeremiah, and others are strong voices that continually point us to the bible for guidance. These are voices to listen to. Mind you, they can fail, but if we are careful to study our bibles, we can confidently be encouraged by them that they are teaching truth.
Call to Action
Here’s my call to action. Start preparing for censorship. Don’t wait for social media to silence these voices. Connect to them directly through their websites. Sign up for their newsletters. Tie directly with each other. Don’t be dependent on social media, even new and alternative platforms. Things aren’t going to get better. We don’t need any sign to know that these are the end times. Expect it to get worse. Now is a good time to build a paper-copy library of classic Christian literature with several copies of your favorites to give away. Make sure this includes lots of bibles!
As you may have guessed, I’m asking you to sign up for direct emails to my blog. You can do that here. It’s on the right side of my home page. Thank you!
Father, we need to be wise is our ways. We are in enemy territory during increasingly dangerous times. Keep us connected so that we may encourage each other in our faith through sound, biblical teaching of the great preachers of our times. Of course, lead us to our bibles. In these pages, we find the words of life. Thank you, Father! Amen.
