“And because lawlessness will be increased,
the love of many will grow cold.”
Matthew 24:12
I don’t know about you, but it seems to me that end times passages are starting to look more and more familiar. While it’s true that Jesus said that no one but the Father knows that day and hour, we are clearly told of the signs we should watch for. And, it certainly seems to me that far more people are silently accepting (if not outright endorsing) violence as a means to an end. It’s not just hands full here and there; it’s an entire generation.
Lawlessness.
Don’t get me wrong, I was plenty lawless; but that was simply for my own debauchery with my friends. There’s plenty of that today, too, but now we are seeing a wide swath of vandalism, destruction of property, rioting, and violence. Lynching isn’t far from that. This isn’t to say that there never was any of this before. It’s to say that it all seems different now.
Why? Because I see young females, who once thought that nothing has changed for decades, now are seeing things move simply because of violence. It’s not that they like the violence; it’s that they like the change. And if the violence is what is necessary to make change, then perhaps it’s a good thing. Quite frankly, I don’t see this trend reversing course. Instead, I think it will accelerate and get much, much worse.
Is all this part of what Jesus was talking about? My prediction could very well prove wrong, but Jesus’ words will only prove right. We will see more lawlessness and the love of many grow cold. Get ready, folks, it’s coming.
What should we do in the meantime? Watch and be ready. Make disciples. Be occupied with that which we have seen of Jesus and the Apostles. Remember, Satan is the father of lies and a murderer from the beginning. He is the prince of this world intended on destroying everything in it. He will use partial truth to lie and entice us to sin. No matter how good a cause seems, it is evil unless its sole intention is to promote biblical repentance through the cross of Jesus.
Matthew 24:25 Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.
Father, keep my head on straight. Amen.
