2018-10-30 Dawn of the Dead.

Good Morning!

Tomorrow is Halloween. What do you think about that? It would seem that most born-again Christians are troubled by at least some aspect of this secular holiday. It’s been awhile since I have been to a horror movie. Several years ago, I went to one at my daughter’s request. It was one of those zombie movies. What was interesting is that it seemed to me what could actually be true about the resurrection. After all, the believers are not the only ones who will rise from the grave, right? Can you imagine the majority of human beings (those who are enemies of God) coming back to life to gather for the final judgment? Remember, those that died physically would have been in torment in Hades and then reunited again with their bodies. Do you suppose their bodies were restored and transformed into glory? I don’t know. The bible doesn’t say. My guess these will be more like the zombies portrayed on our silver screens. Terrifying!

Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.

Luke 16:22-26 The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried, and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. And he called out, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.’ But Abraham said, ‘Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things, but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.’

Daniel 12:2 And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

Matthew 25:31-34, 41, 46 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on his left. Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the beginning of the world…”Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels….And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

I don’t know about you, but I think “Dawn of the Dead” may have more than an element of truth to it. Should we be surprised at that? I don’t think so. Satan seems to use truth when telling us a lie. So, what is the lie? That zombies aren’t real. That movies scare us, but we really don’t have anything to be scared of.

What do you think? Who do you believe? Hollywood or the Bible? It makes me think twice about all this ghoulish stuff tomorrow.

Father, lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.
