2018-10-29 Who the Son Sets Free

Good Morning!

I’m back after some time off to attend a conference hosted by FamilyLife Ministries. It was very good. Actually, everything they do is top notch. You likely are familiar with them from their radio program FamilyLife Today. They have great resources as well as fantastic seminars that they host all across the country.

As you know, I experienced divorce not that long ago. Divorce is ugly no matter the circumstances or how you look at it. There is good reason that God desires us to remain married. However, not everyone agrees, and divorce happens – far more than it should. That being said, I am now in a position to make some big choices. Do I want to move on with my life or stay where I am? Worse yet, do I want to go backwards? That’s a choice, too. If I want to move on, how do I want that to look?

I’m choosing to move on. Not only that, but I am choosing to thrive. Here are a couple of verses that I am embracing.

John 4:14 But whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty forever. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.

John 8:36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

Last night, I watched a video I stumbled upon through Facebook. It was of the rock band AC/DC. I tell you what, there is something wrong there. One may say it is just a stage performance, but to me the demonic was evident and frightening. I have been set free of all that through eternal life. But that’s not the end of this. It’s not just being delivered from hell and guaranteed a spot in heaven. Eternal LIFE began the moment I was saved. It is not SOMEDAY. It is NOW.

That’s why I went to the seminar. I want to learn all that I can about this abundant life Jesus promised. I want to drink deeply from that water He provides. I want to be free!

Indeed, I still have chains on me, but they are unlocked. I need to get with the program for Jesus to remove them all the way. I guess there is a divine purpose in us working out our salvation. No, I take that back. There IS a divine purpose. There is no guessing about that.

2 Peter 1:3-11 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins. Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for if you practice these qualities you will never fail. For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Yeah, that is what I was trying to get at. Exactly. It’s all there in the Holy Scripture. I’m just talking my way through it.

Father, thank you so much for all the wonderful tools you have provided through ministries that simply put your principles and promises to action. They spur us on and reveal to us all that you have promised. Thank you. Amen.
