Today, I’m going to try a new approach. Normally, I write this blog to Christians in the hopes they might be encouraged to share the gospel with a lost and dying world. However, today, after reading the book of Jonah, I have decided to target those who do not yet believe.
My daughters unwittingly had a hand in this. They asked me if I had ever heard of a campus preacher and his wife. They said they followed the wife, Sister Cindy, on TicTok, along with 370,600 other followers. I told them that I indeed did know them and saw them in person in the mid-80s. This couple has been open-air preaching for a long, long time!
The vast majority of the followers are doing so out of mockery. This couple is certainly very odd. Of course, they know that. This oddity is what attracts a crowd, which is exactly what they desire. Why? So that God might have mercy on some.
If I had to do one thing over in my life, it would have been to follow Jesus back when He called me, twice, in college. One of those times was when Brother Jed was on campus. I was in a fraternity and really enjoyed the lifestyle. I worked hard, partied hard, and had a million friends. What more could I want?
Yet there was this preacher on campus who caught my attention. He was weird, but he had courage like no other man I knew. Who, besides a crazy person, would intentionally go into public to confront people of their sin? He was mocked, cursed, bullied, spit on, and occasionally struck. Yet, there he was, every day, on one campus or another.
I could tell he wasn’t out of his mind. What drove a man like that? I knew nobody, I mean nobody, who boldly walked into hostility like he did, and still does.
I’ll tell you why. God touched him like he eventually touched me.
A Long Time Coming
Long story short, I didn’t want to give up my party lifestyle even though, deep down, I knew that Brother Jed spoke truth. Eventually, booze turned on me and sought to destroy me. I experienced, first hand, this verse:
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
You can read more about what happened here. Suffice it to say that a miracle happened. A BIG miracle. My life has never been the same. I am all-in for Jesus. I once vehemently opposed him and anyone who claimed to be his follower. Now, I am trying to convince people Jesus is real. Had you known me before, you wouldn’t believe it.
Judgment Day Is Coming
Folks, there is a day when all of us will die. You may not buy into this Jesus stuff, but my guess is that you think there is more to life than what we see. God put eternity in our heart (Ecclesiastes 3:11). Pay attention to this. Today is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2). Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your heart (Psalm 95:7-11; Hebrew 3:7-8, 15, 4:7).
Don’t wait 20 years like I did. If you hear his voice, follow him. Just do it. You won’t regret it. I promise. True repentance brings true forgiveness. Faith is a gift from God and the condition of eternal life. I am starting a new approach with my blog to reach out to the lost.
Jesus answered him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." John 3:3
Choose wisely. You may not get another opportunity.
A New Approach
If you are seeing this for the first time, welcome. I have started a new approach to reach those who do not yet follow Christ.
Father, I pray that those who read this will consider my advice and examine their lives against your Law. In this, we all fall short. I pray that you soften hearts and open minds and eyes. Have mercy, Lord, for they do not know what they do. Amen.
