Wicked Tenants

Yesterday, I wrote that we are living in a theocracy. Like it or not, and whether we recognize it or not, we are living on a planet that God created. Everyone of us was created by him. Therefore, we are subject to him. It’s ludicrous to think otherwise. Yet the entire world, save for a small remnant, hates him. It reminds me of the parable of the wicked tenants who commandeered the vineyard they were to tend (Lue 20:9-18). The owner made successive attempts to collect what was due, but the wicked tenants beat and humiliated those whom he sent.

Finally, the master sent his son, saying, “They will respect my son.” They didn’t. In fact they killed him. When Jesus asked what the master would do to the wicked tenants, he answered the question himself, saying, “He will come and destroy those tenants and give the vineyard to others.” (v. 16)

Then he said this:

17 But he looked directly at them and said, “What then is this that is written:

“‘The stone that the builders rejected
    has become the cornerstone’?

18 Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken to pieces, and when it falls on anyone, it will crush him.”
Luke 20:17-18

Today’s Wicked Tenants

Yesterday was the anniversary of George Floyd’s death. There is a several-block area surrounding the site of his death that has been labeled a “no-go” zone in which the police are not welcomed. Crime is growing rampant, and several murders have been committed there. Just yesterday, as news crews from all over the world were reporting, dozens of shots rang out sending everyone scurrying for cover. See one news story here.

It’s incredible to see what is happening in Minneapolis. Violent crime is skyrocketing. I can’t imagine living in an area like that. Wounded and dead people are drug to the edge of the barricaded zone so rescue crews can pick them up. They are not allowed inside the zone. It’s absolutely crazy.

Minneapolis is not the only area with wicked tenants. In God’s eyes, even sleepy, peaceful neighborhoods have also rejected the cornerstone. Main Street USA is in the same boat as Minneapolis.

Fair Warning to All Wicked Tenants

Let’s not kid ourselves. “For the wrath of God has been revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.” (Romans 1:18) We are witnessing all that the bible has told us about. It’s happening right before our eyes.

Think about this parable. What if YOU sent your child to collect rent and the tenants KILLED him/her and took the property over as their own? Jesus was sent into this world to do what? To save it! (John 3:17) “He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him.” (John 1:10-11)

Just imagine, if you will, if Jesus was YOUR child. No one on this earth has an excuse (Romans 1:20).

There is only one way out of this mess. Repent and believe in Jesus as Lord! It’s all-or-nothing, my friends. “Christian” churches dot the planet yet very few are born-again. “For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.” (Matthew 7:14)

Father, make me distinct from the wicked tenants. I desire to shine your light. Yes, people hate me because of Jesus. That’s OK. I prefer to warn them of the wrath to come than be welcomed in the midst of sinners.
