Let’s talk about the Sabbath Rest. No need to talk much. Scripture speaks for itself.
8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.Exodus 20:8-11
If you truly want to remember the Sabbath, to make it a day of rest, then you’ll need to prepare for it. Otherwise, it will be just like any other Saturday or Sunday. Get all your stuff done ahead of time. Get your shopping done. Do your errands. Finish up your projects. Do your chores. Prepare food in advance. Get all that stuff done so you can spend quality time worshipping the Lord and bonding with your family.
Here’s a thought. Sunday is Valentine’s Day. Why not make it a special day for your entire family? Husbands, do something nice for your wife. Wives, likewise. Involve your kids. Build lifelong memories, Dad, by showing them how you love their mom. You’ll show them how much you love them in the process. You might also talk about what the bible says about things like this. If you want you kids to understand biblical principles, you need to be the ones teaching them. Otherwise, their school will.
Do you see the need to prepare?
Rest, my friend. God gives you a day off every week. Don’t squander it. You say you wished you had more time to spend with God and your family. Well, here it is.
