As it is said, “Today, if you hear his voice, do not
harden your hearts as in the rebellion.”
Being a small business owner has its advantages. For one, I am able to share the gospel with my customers. I couldn’t freely do that when I worked at someone else’s business. Today, I sent out an update on the SBA PPP program. As part of that, I shared the gospel again. I’m going to share that with you today. Perhaps it will encourage you to do the same. What follows is that transition point in my email.
Overall, things are looking up, but we do see problems on the horizon as new cases of COVID-19 are starting to accelerate and government leaders seem twitchy on the trigger to lock things down again. Everyone has an opinion on that. It has been my belief all along that God is using this virus to get our attention. Why? So that we might honor him as God and give him thanks. Now, because he’s God, honoring him doesn’t mean tipping your hat. No, honoring him means giving him your life by turning from your sin and following him.
You see, Jesus came to this earth and died for our sin so that we might be forgiven ours. If we really take a look at all that we have done to hurt ourselves and others, we will realize there is no way we can ever repay the damage done. Our sin problem is way bigger than we realize. The more we examine it, the worst we find it to be.
Here’s the good news. It doesn’t matter how bad you have been, Jesus will cover your sin. All you need to do is believe in him. That’s it. Believe in him. Of course, if you do that, your life will be radically changed. How? He’ll change it for you. That’s why they call it being born again. You know what I’m talking about. You know those who have “found Jesus.” I’m not talking about those who say they have in order to get out of trouble or to make money. I’m talking about drunkards who give up drinking for good and start telling everyone about Jesus, like me. That’s the kind of stuff God does when he changes a life.
There is bad news also. Each of us know that we dishonor God and go our own way. We may deny it, but we know there will be a day of reckoning when we will stand alone before God and give account for each and every careless word or deed. That will be a long list for the best of us. And forget about talking about all the good things you have done. The bible is clear – if you follow the law, you will be required to perform all of it. No one can do that. No one even wants to do that. We’re all guilty. Hell is a real place and will be filled with real people.
Except for those with genuine faith. Their sin is counted against Jesus. All you need to do is believe. I know it sounds crazy, but it’s true. You’ll become a better person for it because God will give you a new heart and you will want to follow him. You won’t be perfect, by any means, but you will be a new person. And one day, you will enter into the kingdom that Jesus has prepared for you from the beginning of creation and live there with God forever. There will be no more pain, no more tears, no more sin. It will be everlasting joy with God in our midst.
There is a cost to this new life that you should be aware of before signing up. Some people will hate you simply because you follow Jesus. The world hates Jesus, the true Jesus. It’s very likely, even certain, that some of your friends and family will be hostile towards you, maybe even disowning you. It’s possible that you, yourself, have hated a loved one simply because they started yapping on about Jesus. That’ll happen to you. Your faith may one day even cost you your life.
Make up your own mind on this. As for me, I can say that despite losing loved ones and being considered a fool by many friends and acquaintances, I made the right choice. Jesus is worth it. In fact, none of the other stuff matters anymore. I have the better portion, to be sure.
So, to wrap this up, I am certain God is using this virus to get our attention, and he’s using me to point that out to you. What’ll it be? Will you repent of your sin and follow Jesus? Or will you think about it yet go on your way? Or will you think I’m a babbling fool for wasting your time? The choice is yours. You have more than enough information to make a decision.
