“Say to those who have an anxious heart,
“Be strong; fear not!
Behold, your God
will come with vengeance,
with the recompense of God.
He will come and save you.””
Isaiah 35:4
Here’s the chorus to a song that I’m sure you’ll all recall:
Standing, standing
Standing on the promises of God my Savior
Standing, standing
I’m standing on the promises of God
If we are to renew our minds, like Romans 12:2 instructs us, then we will be replacing stinking thinking with something worthwhile.
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me – practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
So, today I’m on the “be strong and fear not” command. Perhaps there is someone out there today that needs this very message. If that’s you, please let me know. Feel free to share this post.
Why is standing strong and fearing not important? Look at the promise that it contains – “Behold, your God will come with vengeance, with the recompense of God. He will come and save you.” It doesn’t say that he might or that he will consider it. It says that he WILL. That’s definite. That’s positive. That is a promise of God.
I have a couple of notes in my bible by Isaiah 35:4. Let’s take a peek at those.
2 Chronicles 32:7-8 “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or dismayed before the king of Assyria and all the horde that is with him, for there are more with us than with him. With him is an arm of flesh, but with us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles.” And the people took confidence from the words of Hezekiah king of Judah.
Ephesians 6:10-13 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.
Folks, some of you are in a battle right here and now. Others will soon be. No one doing God’s work will escape trials and difficulties. Know these commands and the promises that go with them.
Be Strong!
Be Courageous!
Fear Not!
God will take care of you. Oh, you might want to keep this verse on your heart:
Romans 8:28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
Father, let your words sink deep in the mind and heart of those who read this today. Amen.
