It’s easy to get caught up in the cares of this world and not be stopped in my tracks in awe and wonder of the one, true, and living God. Without his grace and mercy, I am dead in my sin – irrevocably and for all eternity. I may divert my attention will everything the world has to offer, but nothing changes my willful, intentional fate.

Yet, something happened, and God changed all that. Whereas my fate, in my hands, was irrevocable, God irrevocably overtured my sentence. Once I was only beginning to see my eternity of weeping, wailing, and the gnashing of teeth. Now, I am beginning to see God making all things new.

How can this be? Why would he do that?Why would he choose to have mercy on me?

All I know is that he did, and I can never, ever, repay him. What I can do is worship him and be careful to do all that he commands – not so that I might earn my salvation but because doing so honors him and is ultimately what is best for me. You see, the best way to serve myself is not to serve myself but to serve him.

So, I might forget the gospel from time to time while caught up in worldly affairs, but he always reels me back in. It is then, like now, that I am dumbstruck at his majesty.
