Good Morning!

Yesterday, I covered Psalm 1 because it was one of my favorites. Guess what? Psalm 2 is right behind it. I believe it is very fitting to mention considering the condition of the world today. Let’s take a look:

Psalm 2
Why do the nations rage and the people plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his anointed, saying, “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.”

He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying, “As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.”

I will tell of the decree; The Lord said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you. Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”

Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

I am reminded of the liberal church when I read passages like these. Honestly, it’s no wonder that someone would ignore parts or all of the bible – or even rewrite it – when stuff like this is there. I mean unless there is truth behind this Psalm, it is fantasy – nothing more that mythology. The problem with the bible, for liberal theologians, is that it is packed full, from front to back, of stuff like this. Right? “Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled.” Does that sound like the meek lamb that Jesus is all too often made out to be?

Exactly what is “wrath”? A simple Google search defines it as “extreme anger.” Synonyms include anger, rage, fury, outrage, spleen (yes, spleen), etc. Spleen has a second definition (behind the body organ) of bad temper, spite. “He could vent his spleen on the institutions that had duped him.” There you go. A new word. Do you see Jesus as “wrathful”? That word is all over the bible.

Yesterday, Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy resigned. If you recall, for many people the court nomination was the deciding factor in voting for Trump as President. It looks like God is definitely answering prayer in this administration. I freely admit I voted for a throw-away party that shared more of my biblical views in favor of the morality of Donald Trump. Even so, he has surprised me in many, many ways in what he has actually gotten accomplished despite the gridlock of Congress. We now have a President who openly supports Christianity. Is he Christian? That isn’t so evident. However, we have another crack at a pro-life justice once again. Perhaps the Lord will give us yet another real soon.

While I am convinced Psalm 2 will eventually come to pass, its present-day warning is clear. It is also clear that prayer can be influential in changing the heart of a king. Let’s praise our God and Father for that!! Let’s really keep the pressure on this world that is not our home by praying all the harder for revival!

Father, thank you so much for hearing our prayer! While we know that divine judgment will come, we do see many, many examples of a nation changing its heart and you blessing them for it. Father, invigorate your warriors to pray hard and to openly proclaim the gospel. Bring us revival in this nation and across the entire globe! Amen!
