Good Morning!
Thunder and lightning this morning! I love it!
My bible plan revealed this nugget yesterday:
1 Kings 18:21 And Elijah came near to all the people and said, “How long will you go limping between two different opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.” And the people did not answer him a word.
Seems to me we have LOTS of that going on today. For the record, before my conversion I did not follow God. I’m no better than anyone else. For a reason I cannot explain, God changed me; and I started following him. I’m no one to talk EXCEPT for the fact that I now DO follow the Lord.
Many of us are familiar with this passage. The prophet Elijah squared up for a showdown with all the false prophets. It was a showdown between God and Baal to see which is real. Theirs did nothing while God consumed the offering. I’ll bet that was something! To make it even more interesting, Elijah taunted the other team (him alone against 450 others).
v. 27 And at noon Elijah mocked them, saying, “Cry aloud, for he is a god. Either he is musing, or he is relieving himself, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he is asleep and must be awakened.”
We have something to learn from this. Call out false prophets and false teachers. Don’t let them spew lies. They may sound as if they are following Jesus, but if they weave lies into the gospel and the Word of God, they are false.
Don’t be afraid. They are liars. Learn from Elijah.
Father, give me ears to recognize truth. Unsettle me when I hear lies. Grant me courage to call out false teachers. Amen.
